Hagåtña, Guam – In working together to identify areas of improvement at one of the island’s ports of entry, senators of the 36th Guam Legislature conducted a tour of the Port Authority of Guam with the guidance of Port leadership.
The tour on March 10, 2021, was initiated at the request of Senator Telena Cruz Nelson, oversight chairperson of the Port, to achieve a more holistic understanding of Port operations, personnel, and ongoing projects. The tour included Sen. Mary Torres, committee vice chairperson, and legislative leadership: Speaker Therese Terlaje, Vice Speaker Tina Muña Barnes, and Legislative Secretary Sen. Amanda Shelton.
Port General Manager Rory Respicio and Deputy General Manager of Operations Dominic Muña led the tour, which included a boat tour to inspect several ongoing projects as part of the Port’s 2020 Master Plan. These projects include the rehabilitation of Hotel Wharf, waterline replacements and relocations, building, warehouse and pier repairs, and improvements to the Golf Pier. After touring the facilities and ongoing projects, senators met with several members representing Port management for insight on their particular functions and roles.
“We extend our gratitude to the leadership and workforce of the Port for their many sacrifices and perseverance during the pandemic,” said Senator Nelson. “Their stable operations helped keep our community afloat and we applaud each and every Port employee’s contribution. We look forward to the completion of their ongoing projects, which will pave the road for the Port’s modernization and transformation into a world class terminal serving Guam and the West Pacific.”
