Nelson introduces Resolution supporting H.R. 4406, the “Supporting Medicaid in the U.S. Territories"

Hagåtña, Guam – Senator Nelson introduced a Resolution expressing the support of the passage of H.R. 4406, the “Supporting Medicaid in the U.S. Territories Act of 2021”.

H.R. 4406, introduced by Honorable Representative Darren Soto Sablan and Honorable Representative Gus Bilirakis, requests increased financial support to the U.S. territories under the Medicaid program, providing five years of Medicaid funding for Puerto Rico and eight years for other U.S. territories and other purposes.

“With nearly 21% of Guam’s residents receiving Medicaid, families were able to stay afloat, especially during these uncertain times. Losing this funding will negatively impact the territories due to reductions in coverage, services, and changes to provider rates. We must continue to work towards an extension of Medicaid to ensure our families can recover from the economic consequences of the pandemic,” said Senator Nelson

The public hearing for Resolution 130-36 (COR) was held on August 23, 2021, at 5:00 pm at the Guam Legislature in Hagåtña.
