Senator Nelson Cultivates Young Minds

Senator Nelson visits C.L. Taitano Elementary School during Mes Chamorro to read to students from Pre-K to Second grade. The classroom was full of interaction and passion from students as they engaged with Senator Telena C. Nelson while she read books which included Chamorro legends and those written by local authors. They learned about the legend of the boy who leaped to Rota, who grew Metgot (strong) which gave him the ability to jump from Guahan to Luta in one hop. Senator Nelson had students participate in exercises that portrayed physical strength, and instilled in them that being "Metgot," isn't just about physical strength but also strength in their minds and spirit too. Just like the boy who leaped to Rota had to have faith in himself and intelligence to understand the distance was attainable in one leap.

Senator Nelson encouraged the students to be respectful to their parents and teachers, and to continue to invest in their education by reading more, and never giving up in school. "Always strive to be strong at heart, to stand up for what is right, to be strong in your

minds, and to fight for everyone in the community," she stated.
